A5 jailbreak! Coming to a phone near you (or iPad2) ;)

So I bet I’m not the only one that’s been eagerly scouring the web every other day, hunting for some credible information as to when a jailbreak will be available for the A5 enabled iDevices…

Well today, I found it!

As posted here yesterday..

The notorious Pod2g announced via twitter recently;

It now appears that Pod2g has passed his findings on to the iPhone Dev Team in order to bundle and supply the most intensely awaited jailbreak since the launch of the original iPhone.

There had been some well founded concerns over exploiting the new A5 chip and many believed it to be a no go, just shows what determination and a fully disrupted sleep cycle can achieve ;)

We must now wait for all involved to build the new intel into what they know and unleash it upon the world!

I’ll be all over this as soon as its out so watch this space.

My iPhone 4S WILL be sharing it’s 3G (without paying ridiculous tethering charges) soon!! :D

The XBOX gets online media!

W00t! I’m possibly a little behind here but it appears that the XBOX360 dashboard has been brought up to date.

We’ve had Sky Player for some time now which was epic when released but now we have the likes of YouTube, 4OD, DEMAND5, Love Film, MSN Video, Blinkbox and even Dailymotion.

Wow!!

That’s more video apps than the Kinect sensor can register me waving a stick at. Now I just need an app to create enough time to use them all ;)

Good job Microsoft. Why would anyone ever want a PS3 now?

The best thing about these apps is the way they’ve been designed, clearly focussing on the Kinect sensor being the main method of interaction.

Within the YouTube app (and all others), we’re presented with the new tile style layout which makes control by hand very easy and very cool.

Definitely about time but definitely worth the wait.

EDIT:

Marcus Lockwood @ WickedClothing just gave me a heads up on something…

He sources his information from http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16029825.

Blimey! iPlayer was always a major thing missing, even when Sky Player was released but I’m glad to see that now the Beeb are working with Microsoft to make this happen.

Pretty soon I’m not going to need my PC on ever, and I’ll be honest…. I am really looking forward to that!!

IOS5 Jailbreak iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4

Here are some important points to note before you proceed.

  • This guide is meant for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users only. iPad users can checkout the step-by-step guide at this link and iPod touch users can checkout the step-by-step guide at this link.
  • Please go through our latest status update on jailbreaking iOS 5 to figure out if you should jailbreak iOS 5.
  • Redsn0w 0.9.9b4 only supports a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot.
  • If you want to unlock your iPhone then please don’t use this guide as Redsn0w doesn’t preserve baseband. You should wait for Dev team to release a new version of Redsn0w, which is expected to include the PwnageTool functionality or use Snowbreeze for Windows.
  • Please note that jailbreaking your iPhone may void your warranty and hence proceed with caution and at your own risk.
  • Please do not forget to backup your iPhone before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPhone.
  • If you’ve jailbroken your iPhone then you can use jailbreak apps such as AptBackup, PkgBackup or xBackup from Cydia to take a backup of all the jailbreak apps and tweaks so you can reinstall them easily after successfully jailbreaking your iPhone rather then installing them individually. However, since you’re moving from iOS 4.x to iOS 5, it may be a good idea to reinstall the jailbreak apps to avoid compatibility issues.
  • After the jailbreaking process is complete, do not forget to checkout our article on tips to keep your iPhone secure.
  • Please ensure you are running latest version of iTunes i.e. iTunes 10.5 or later.
  • Known issue: iBooks keeps crashing after jailbreaking iPhone using this method. Dev team is working hard to fix the issue.

We want to reiterate that if you want to unlock your iPhone then you shouldn’t use this guide as Redsn0w doesn’t preserve baseband.

Troubleshooting:

How to fix the White/Blank Cydia icon issue:

If you notice the white Cydia icon (which fails to launch) after successfully jailbreaking your iPhone. Then follow these steps to fix the issue.

  • Launch Redsn0w again.
  • Click on Extras and then click on Just Boot from the list of options.
  • You will now be prompted to plug your iPhone to the computer and switch it off. Follow the instructions in the correct sequence and click on ‘Next‘ to move to the next screen:
  • You will now need to put your iPhone into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will take you through the necessary steps:
    • Hold the Power button on iPhone down for 3 seconds.
    • Now simultaneously hold the iPhone and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds.
    • Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w detects the device.
  • Your device will reboot and you will see the Pwnage icon on your iPhone’s screen for few minutes.
  • After your iPhone is successfully rebooted, you will see the regular Cydia icon (brown). You should now be able to launch Cydia without any issue.

Please don’t forget to let us know how it goes in the comments.

Update 2:

Download link for Redns0w has been updated with the latest version – Redsn0w 0.9.9 beta 7.

Is anybody there?

VoIP is becoming more and more accepted throughout the globe with many new companies jumping on board the extensively flexible, follow me anywhere and “call me for free” technology bandwagon.

Businesses and individuals alike are realising there is money to be saved by moving their voice away from traditional POTS and throwing it over cheap broadband links such as ADSL.

Sounds great… but does it actually ‘Sound Great’?
